Hailing from Indian Institute of Technology (Bachelor and Master in Energy Engineering), Sougata developed one of the first Regional corporate Sustainable Development Policy and Implementation Plan in 2006 for the erstwhile TECOM Investments. Between 2006 and 2011, this Policy helped transform the Green Building and the Energy & Water Conservation industries in the Region while it delivered 5 of the first 12 LEED certified buildings in the Region, reduced energy consumption by 10% without any Capex and water consumption by 30% with a programme that paid back in 2 months.
“Sougata’s work since 2000 in the UAE, has reduced carbon emissions in excess of over 200,000 tons to date. Under his leadership, the Emirates Energy Star program was set up in 2011, the fastest growing energy efficiency programme with close to 100 buildings in the UAE signing up in 24 months. Previously, Sougata has implemented numerous Energy and Water conservation projects across the UAE, including the first retrofit Gray Water Recycling project in Dubai. He is only the second LEED AP from the UAE and was the LEED AP on 6 of the first 12 LEED certified projects in the Middle East.
In recent times, Sougata has focused largely on utilizing ICT to deliver a more sustainable environment. Sougata firmly believes that while designing for sustainability is important, what is more crucial is the sustainable operation of developments through their entire life cycle.
Sougata’s work has won him and his organizations several Awards in recent years, including the prestigious Emirates Energy Award multiple times.”
Sougata’s successful implementation expertise has positioned him as an acknowledged sustainability leader, promoting awareness through his articles as a sustainability columnist with Gulf News Property Weekly. His technical articles in Climate Control ME disseminate implementation expertise to the end users. Sougata has also been a Judge on a variety of Awards like HULT Global Case Challenge, Climate Control Awards and Smart City App Hack.
